(RP=94+) The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Sergio Zenato takes a long and hard look at Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta and Croatina. This is a stunning wine with an oversized mouthfeel and unforgettable intensity. The bouquet pulls back to reveal black cherry, barbecue smoke, dried chocolate mocha, dark vanilla and spicy cinnamon cake. You definitely feel the thrust and the power of the alcohol, but the 2007 vintage delivers the rich extract and tannin to withstand it. Drink 2014-2024. (AG=94+) Zenato's 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva Sergio Zenato is deeply intriguing. Truffles, tobacco, orange peel and incense all lend exotic dimensions of nuance and complexity. Impossibly young the 2007 is going to require at least a few years in bottle, but it will always remain an opulent wine built on texture and volume. All the elements fall into place in a striking wine endowed with gorgeous purity and depth. This is a fabulous showing from Zenato. (WS=94) Mouthwatering, with lush notes of black cherry coulis, raspberry ganache, strawberry preserves, ground anise and espresso. Fine-grained tannins frame this vibrant, silky red, with smoke, dried herb and spice notes echoing on the lasting finish. Drink now through 2028. 1,250 cases made. (JS=94) Blam. Loads of dark fruits, spices and shaved chocolate here. Turns minerally and pretty. Full body with soft and silky tannins and lots of spicy, dried fruit character. Balanced and very pretty. So delicious now but will improve with age.
