(AM=90-93) As typical examples of Renardes always are, this is intensely animale on the nose and though there is mild reduction, it's obvious that the fruit is ripe and dense. The bigger and more obviously structured flavors pack real punch on the wonderfully rich, full and driving finish and there is even better depth here. Impressive. (AG=90) Deep red. Very ripe but subdued aromas of smoky red berries, bitter cherry, mocha and chocolate; slightly reduced. Lush, broad and very ripe, with a distinct foxy wildness that I associate with this vineyard. This, too, boasts impressive volume but the flavors are lower-pitched than those of the Reas. Finishes with saline soil tones, a hint of leather and big but softish tannins. (RP=89-91) Their owner was ready to grub-up the vines until Liger-Belair offered to turn their fruit into his 2005 Corton Renardes. Ripe black cherry wreathed in wood smoke in the nose leads to a particularly clear, pure, intensely-fruited palate with hints of smoke, red meat, and wet stone. This lacks the polish and dark depth exhibited by the Corton Rognets, but makes up for it in clarity and vivacity, finishing with chalk and salt accents as well as persistently bright, ripe black cherry fruit.
