(AM=94) This is restrained to the point where it requires aggressive swirling to coax the reticent nose to reveal notes of cherry, pomegranate, violet and a lovely range of spice elements. The sleek but equally restrained broad-shouldered and focused flavors possess a taut muscularity while delivering excellent persistence on the impeccably well-balanced finale. Unlike most of the wines in the range this graceful effort is definitely going to require close to a decade of patience to soften the firm tannic spine. (AG=94) Medium red, not especially saturated. Alluring lift to the aromas of red berries, minerals and rose petal. Densely packed yet weightless, with the wine's intense rocky character accentuating its youthfully spicy wild berry and floral flavors. Really stunning inner-mouth aromatic character and pungent minerality here. Finishes with outstanding length and perfumed spicy lift. The Georges Nollat parcel is in the dead center of the appellation and this is indeed a quintessential Grands-Echzeaux with considerable aging potential.
