(RP=95-96) The 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St.-Jacques evinces a roasted meatiness and superb, low-toned depth of subtly sweet fruit, salty, savory yet implacable minerality, toasted nut piquancy, and an overall personality that combines palate-staining intensity with cool refinement and elegance, density with silky texture, and monumental minerality with verve. Plan to revel in this at anywhere from ten to twenty years age. (AG=92) Deep red-ruby. Sappy aromas of raw crushed berries; distinctly cooler than the Champeaux. Sweet, lush and thick but nicely framed by harmonious, ripe acidity. This spreads out impressively on the back end and finishes with very good energy. This cooler site was obviously favored in 2005. (WS=92) Opulent and rich, with blackberry, licorice and spice flavors, with a hint of chocolate. The sweetness covers the tannins, which are enmeshed in the velvety texture. The structure shows itself on the long finish. Best from 2012 through 2028.
