(RP=95) More open and ready to go, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Le Clos du Caillou is a perfumed, sexy wine that thrills with its cassis, candied licorice, violets, flowers and spice. Surprisingly up front and open, yet with smoking purity of fruit and fine tannin, it can be enjoyed anytime over the coming 10-15 years. (AG=94) (60% grenache and 40% mourvedre): Bright ruby-red. Pungent, assertive aromas of candied red fruits, cola, incense and potpourri, with a hint of vanilla in the background. Stains the palate with deep raspberry and cherry flavors and becomes spicier with air. Supple tannins lend shape to the extremely long, sweet, penetrating finish. This is still a baby.
