(JS=92) Rich and quite subtle with some earthy and savory character, which adds complexity. There?s a serious tannic core behind the ripe flavors that gives the finish quite a punch and should give this a long life. (WS=90) Has a pretty, plush feel that allows the plum sauce and raspberry pure notes to glide through, picking up modest black tea, warm cocoa and alder accents along the way. Drink now through 2022. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 835 cases made. (AG=88-91) The 2014 Clos Badon is a dark, voluptuous beauty endowed with considerable richness and raciness. Super-ripe black cherries, mocha, bittersweet chocolate, new oak and spices flesh out in an inky, intense wine. The style is decidedly ripe, plush and opulent, with all the elements in place. Still, Clos Badon is quite extroverted. (RP=87-88) The Clos Badon 2014, which Jean-Luc Thunvin told me he farmed organically for the first time, shows some signs of sur-maturit?on the nose. It is decadent and powerful, but it does not have the same purity as say, the Virginie de Valandraud. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry: plush in the mouth with plenty of creamy new oak, quite dense, but it needs to demonstrate more finesse by the time of bottling.
